Bill Foster

Bill is a musician based in the Northern Shenandoah Valley town of Strasburg, Virginia. He plays guitar and mandolin and also sings both lead and harmony vocals. Bill has long had an interest in Bluegrass music, but his repertoire also includes songs from Classic Rock, Blues, Folk, Country, Americana and Singer/Songwriter genres.

Bill has played with a number of local bands, including Strasburg's Five of a Kind. While living in Florida in the early 2000's, he played with the bluegrass band Swinging Bridge for 6 years. Over the years, Bill has also played with several D.C. area bands, including New River Express, Winterwood and Outer Banks.

Between 1985 and early 2017, Bill was a part-time producer and host of a variety of Bluegrass music programs on "WAMU's Bluegrass Country", including Bluegrass Overnight and Fosters Corner.

More recently, since the summer of 2017, Bill has been the Program Director for on-line radio station, Bell Buckle Radio, out of Bell Buckle, Tennessee. Bill also produces and hosts his own "Foster's Corner" show that airs regularly on Bell Buckle Radio.

Bill has long been a professional member of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) and is also a member of its Leadership Bluegrass program. Additionally, Bill is a contributing writer for Bluegrass Unlimited magazine.

Despite his clear ongoing passion for Bluegrass music, Bill is excited and intrigued about playing guitar and mandolin with Massandoah on songs that are typically outside the traditional bluegrass genre.
